Memory Problem: All in Your Mind?

As you may have noticed, I'm doing a mini-series of entries on how to keep your memory in top shape.
In this entry, I wanted to talk about how the mind can play tricks on your memory.

For years, we have known that stress is a risk factor for a heart attack. A recent study has shown that constantly elevated stress levels can also be damaging to the brain due to increased levels of cortisol in the blood caused by the stress.

It has also been documented in several well-designed studies that elevated levels of cortisone negatively influence memory performance. This finding held true even when they studied stress in real-life situations. Women with very stressful jobs showed the greatest decline in intellectual functions over time. So, the first thing to do the next time you lose your keys or walk into a room and forget why you're there is to not stress about it.

A depressed mood can also lead to memory problems.

Most people don't realize that depression can cause something called "pseudodementia." I have had more than a few patients come into my office complaining of memory impairment. After successfully managing an underlying problem of depression, these memory complaints disappeared.

MRI studies performed on people suffering from depression have shown that the part of the brain responsible for short-term memory, the hippocampus, actually shrinks in patients whose depression goes untreated.

In my experience, I've learned that many patients complaining of decreased memory use that as an opportunity (and an invitation) for me to ask more questions about their emotional health. However, please be aware that not all physicians will pick up on these subtle cues.

Therefore, if you are having problems dealing with stress or depression, just come right out and say it. You may get better and faster treatment.

n then...kt lib... kene transfer buku byk gile from shelf depan to shelf blakngg...:( baru ingt nak rilek n buat hw.. after transfer2 buku dh takde mood dh buat hw... n then balik...grab a chzburger kt union [saving$$$]... sgt down lg... what to do aaaa? then i decide to take a long bubble bath...sambil mkn aiskrim... haha...mcm gross rite mkn dlm toilet.... dun care! my bathroom bersih ok! sgt best after dat... FRESH..! try la rakan2!

interview was fun.. got to meet my feverets... me n ilo crashed in ksyu's room... we had so much fun... doing girly stuffs... mmm... the interviewers were so very nice lar! my session was with puan ZJ. the senior manager of HR... if x salah lar.. she's so slumber rock n sgt baik...sgt suker...but still sgt risau with the interview/test results.... tah mane2 kene campak...risau2! so sedey when pk last interview was the last official gettogether PET-IU-lehigh... after this sure susah nk jumpe everybody rite? eventho tak dpt nak hangout that much as usual....cz everybody's interview session's diff... but we sempat late dinner together!

TAPI... takut laa....sgt phobia nak gi date with Mr Honda alone anymore...cz what if Mr Honda sakit lagi tgh2 jalan tgh2 highways... i dun hv the energy/patience to tow Mr Honda balik Troy again... silap2 another 50bux melayang... woke up early today... ~2pm... sprayed the tv table n bookshelf to black... sgt suke! y la tak spray those awal2 last sem... after spray those item worth 100% more u know! nothing much done today...dok main2 spray... vacuum bilik n organize stuffs + buang stuffs... gotta get ready for moving out nnt... hv to make sure this room look the best when my mom dtg.. hihi.. xcited! esok ape nak buat eh... nak pegi post office..library n return some stuffs kt mall... hopefully will be done by 6pm... :)

its really cold today -16C~ i didnt check the temp b4 going out to campus 2day...
sgt tak properly dressed for this fr**king cold weather... with my suar rockers koyak kt knees... n ballet shoes... baju nipis... n lucky i wore my peacoat..kalau tak... frozen! my feet sakit gile by the time sampai kt library.....from north lot parking to green buildingg...bout 3mins walk.. rs cam nak matiiiiiiiiiiiiii.... y la sejuk gile troy nie.... accord to weatherman..troy will be sejuk until this weekends... hmmphss.. nk gi mall/mkn2 pon mls if sejuk gel... i would rather kepompongkan diri in my luvly2 sleeping bag... but then...rase ngidam kheer shalimar... troylets jom la shalimar buffet... :)~~~~ slurp2

~spring break~ nothing much to do... no travelling.. 1st time tak trvl time spring break... *sobs3* takpela...got to save my money 4 shopping n byr utang... if people slalu ckp...utang keliling pinggang... maybe....4 me... kene improvise sket kot.. utang keliling badan... haha...mmm.. tp still takleh nak cut down my shooping habits la... lg2 kalau tgh2 cuti n got nothing to do..*SIGH*

my misson 4 tomm... bgn pagi...n do sth..at least! nk beli food laa..got nothing to eat kt bilik...slalu je lapa... miss my eating buddies...teetos yg slalu lapa..~like me

got so many plans 4 spring break... m hoping to accomplish at least 75% kot.
so far my plans are

- shoppingggggg (interview stuffs + etc)
- catchup with reading assignments (CBA, NSC and Design)
- print piccies for my new frame
- read articles for interview
- get sponsorship for AAW
